Title : Database Administrator

Location : Harrisburg, PA

Duration : Long Term

 

Description: 

The successful candidate will become a member of the Database Administration team for a large web application hosting environment in Central Pennsylvania. Candidate will administer, maintain and tune high-availability, high-performance database solutions using products from Microsoft and Oracle. The candidate must have excellent technical, communication and organizational skills. 

The hosting environment comprises 4000 Wintel servers and 800 Web-facing applications and continues to grow. It is widely recognized for its innovative use of the latest technologies from Microsoft, Cisco, Oracle and other leading IT companies.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Administer database and database software
  • Proactively monitor the database servers to ensure high availability
  • Review the performance of databases on a periodic basis to identify and provide recommendations to enhance performance including index updates.
  • Work with Deployment Team Members to plan, review and deploy databases and database updates for applications
  • Develop Data Transformation scripts
  • Verify database and backup jobs are run successfully according to their defined schedules
  • Provide periodic reports on the performance, capacity and availability of database servers.
  • Deploy Database patches and updates.

 

Essential Skills:

  1. Extensive knowledge and expertise with at least four years of database administration experience in
    1. Microsoft SQL Server 2008/2012
  2. Knowledge and experience with
    1. SQL Reporting Services
    2. SQL Analytical Services
  3. Experience with Microsoft Cluster
  4. Knowledge and expertise in managing Microsoft Windows 2003/2008/2012 Server

5.       Microsoft Certified DBA (Required)

 

Desired Skills:

  • Microsoft Internet Information Server
  • Knowledge and expertise with database administration experience in
    • Oracle 11 G
    • Oracle RAC
  • Oracle Certified DBA (Optional)

 

Location: Harrisburg, PA. Candidate must live within a one-hour drive of Harrisburg.

Start date: ASAP

Hours:  onsite during business hours

Project Term: 12 months, with potential for further extensions lasting 10 years

Mobile Phone/Laptop: Required for infrequent after-hours support and escalations.
