Job Title: Lead SQL Database Administrator
Location: Oakland, CA (LOCALS ONLY)
Duration: 6+ Months
A growing SaaS provider, is actively looking for a Database Administrator to join our expanding team. The ideal candidate will be results driven, goal-oriented, a leader and will possess a strong capability to handle interruptions while multi-tasking in a fast paced environment. The successful candidate will have the ability and the opportunity to rapidly learn new skills and technologies in a high growth setting. Preference will be given to candidates with SQL Server 2012/2014 experience in a high volume, multi-terabyte production environment requiring 99.95% + uptime.
Specific Responsibilities Include:
- Collaborate with a strong team to manage and support the company’s on-demand production applications.
- Day-to-day administration of SQL Server 2012 and 2014 (backup/restore, monitoring, user management, etc.)
- Interface with our Engineering and QA teams to help manage our non-production and production environments.
- Join our on-call team rotation to assist in providing the highest level of availability for our customers.
- Facilitating root cause analysis on database issues.
- Managing security of application access to databases.
- Designing and implementing database backup policies and procedures.
- Create and maintain scripts for monitoring, administration, automation, etc.
- Ownership of the SQL code deploy process for patches and releases.
- Capacity planning (disk space, I/O, CPU, memory, etc.) to ensure we are properly positioned for growth.
Desired Skills:
- 8+ years of hands-on experience administering a large (>1 TB) production SQL Server OLTP environment (with an uptime target 99.95% or greater)
- 2+ years of hands-on experience on managing SQL Server AlwaysON Availability Groups and Failover Cluster.
- 3+ years of progressive work experience supporting 24/7 on-demand applications
- At least 3 years of experience in a complex Windows Server environment.
- Experience with following system and application experience:
- Microsoft clustering
- Third party backup software
- SANs
- Microsoft Windows 2003/2008/2012 Server
- Scripting - preferably PowerShell
- Proven ability to use scripts to automate and streamline is a BIG plus
- Experience deploying code to production environments while adhering to strict release
- Experience with Linux and any KVS data systems would be a plus.
- Experience with SQL Server 2014 upgrade would be a huge plus.
